The Loner

What are your impressions of the boy and the children

The boy is an introvert person.

Base on the phrase “He leans against the playground wall”, we could see that the boy needs emotional support and have the lack of secure as he was probably envious of the children playing in the playground. Almost all the children were playing in the playground except him as he was leaning against the playground wall. It may be because of his shyness or he may be probably defensive against the children playing.

Thus, I feel that the boy is an introvert.

The children in the playground are selfish and stubborn.

The phrase “In slow huddled groups, low talking”, meant that the children were gossiping in close groups as they did not want the boy to hear them. From this aspect, we could see that the children are selfish to the boy.

“His loneness is his shell and shield” “And neither he nor we will yield”. The boy’s loneness was his protection and his home. However, the children did not care about his feelings and both parties did not want to give in to each other. From this aspect, we could see that the children are stubborn.

Hence, I conclude that the children are selfish and stubborn.
